still feeling it
It is time for another mega update.
Once again, I apologise for possibly the worst story telling technique and writing. No proof reading or editing to be made. But I doubt I can write as much as the previous post, we'll see.
This post is more so for the sake of keeping Mazzy, my devoted reader, happy and entertained. And then she gets all cute and cuddly and will bombard me with nothing. No messages of love, care and affection. Maybe its pay back for being the entertainment during our time Denmark and now I have to entertain?
Anyway, let’s move on…
If we were to cast our mind back to Friday, 25 August 2006.
It was simply another day at the office. Nothing special, except for the fact that A-League Season commenced and has been marketed as A-League Version 2. I was pretty excited considering that my usual buddy, Simon Z, wasn’t going to be there. I had replaced him with Doogs.
Stop. Correction.
It was a rather special day in the office. Casual Day #3 since day one of 2006. In our support for cancer research, we get to wear casual clothes, or suits, that had something yellow. Daffodil Day happens once a year and I chipped in my bit in the aid of cancer research. Especially considering that both my grandparents passed away due to cancer.
Back to the story.
Caught up with Simon Z and Karan for lunch at Satay Bar. It’s a suit’s place for lunch. Luyen introduced Satay Bar during our wannabe regular lunches with Luke, Ee and myself. Nothing special here. Just lunch, catching up, sharing some jokes and thinking of what to do in a few weeks time.
Back to the office and pretend that I am busy.
Left the building at 6pm and headed to The Apartment. Ash had invited me to an after work function with one of his friends who were celebrating their birthday. It’s always nice to meet new people and compete in the stakes of “who has the biggest ego”. The Apartment is a nice venue, spacious, loungey, $5 Stellas and a decent clientele (mind you, all in suits and I had the rare casual day!). I’d like to go back there sometime soon. After six beers and meeting 10 different people, in the space of an hour and half, I stumbled my way to Olympic Park where Melbourne Victory was to play against Adelaide United.
Victory has never beaten Adelaide. To add more salt to the wound, it has never scored against them too. So I came with very little expectation that Victory will survive the match for a nil all draw. Taking into account the disappointing match that Simon and I went to in the Pre-Season.
2-0 to Victory was the scoreline. Doogs and I had a great time. A decent crowd of about 15,000 braved the cold climate conditions to see Victory overcome Adelaide and getting the three points. A very good start to the season. Of course, I was hungry, considering I haven’t eaten anything and had more beers and a massive bratwurst hotdog.
A jubilant Victory crowd stormed into the city with Doogs and me in the thick of the celebrations.
Met up with Brendon, Luke and James for a good yarn. Double Happiness was packed, as usual, and thus made our way to Madame Brussels. More beers to be had, German to be exact and expensive too considering I paid for this round, and listened into Brendon’s amazing stories of India. Alfy and Diana dropped by and quickly left as the place closes quite early. As the doors shut, off we went to the James Squire Brewhouse.
Here, we caught up with Pei-San, Ben, Nick, Simon and Mishie. I don’t recall much here. I just remember bad music, drunken ladies on the dance floor and a beer in my hand.
Nick introduced us to Comme Wine Room. It looks magnificent. And I’ve heard plenty of good things on Comme, in particular the restaurant. I’m sure I’ll be here for lunch sometime soon. Pity James, Brendon and myself were unable to go in. The bouncer didn’t like our tastes in clothes and we opted to continue our drinks on the terrace. Luke was kind enough to order the beers and deliver it to us like any professional waiter. Once again, I feel the need to apologise and I don’t recall what we talked about. Although I do remember a topic of conversation on the new Holden Commodore VE and the reviews we have read in the papers. But as usual, it’s probably just crap and bullshit was the main art of conversation.
From a classy place to a non-classy place. Hungry Jacks. Food oh glorious, greasy, food. Whenever there is simply too much alcohol in your system, greasy burgers, kebabs, a souvlaki and skanky asian meals are the way to go.
Here we meet a drunken Alfy and a composed Diana who were on a mission to consume five or six shots.
The Croft Institute called. As predicted, my memory fails me here. I only remember a beer in my hand, having a few shots. And possibly the funniest moment before heading in to the Croft. Two drunken idiots found a patch of lawn and laid it down on Little Bourke Street. Stopping every car coming by to roll up the lawn and lay it down again once the car had passed. When you are drunk, it is amusing and hilarious. I noticed Ben has some pictures of the night.
From Croft, Stalactites and their massive souvlaki beckon us.
Alfy, Simon and Mishie headed home. Whilst, Pei-San, Ben, Luke and myself headed on to the Melbourne Supper Club. Things I remember: Luke ordering wine and it was good, peanuts for all, curled up in a ball and fell asleep on the soft leather couch and woken up by a massive slap on my thigh from Luke. Coffee to wake me up.
Pretty much the night ended there. Luke and I took a taxi and promises were made for a fly breakfast, things to achieve on Saturday and of course the mandatory bullshit that comes out of our mouths.
Simon and Mishie’s sofa is a gift from heaven at 6am. I slept like a baby.
Yes, a 6pm to 6am night out. Thank god my body isnt as old as Luke's - poor boy was in pain all morning.
Saturday morning.
Woke up and drank as much water and coffee that any human being can possibly consume and pee every 30mins. It’s worth it, considering when your head is slightly banging and your body is dehydrated.
Alfy headed to his parents place. Simon, Mishie and Luke went out to get some food for the massive BBQ. Whilst I stayed back and watched TV with Mishie’s little sister. The three grocery shoppers came back. Luke cranked up the BBQ to make a Bacon and Egg Roll. I helped Simon and Mishie cleaning up the place. The sun was out and the Bacon and Egg Roll summoned my senses. With furry teeth, chomped on a delightful brekkie.
Guests started to arrive and I wanted to go home, shower and come back to join in the festivities.
Alas it wasn’t too be.
Headed home, picked up Jacs from the station and slept. The next thing I know its time for a late dinner.
Jacs and I had cravings for pub food. So off we went to Emerald to get our cravings satisfied at Katie O'Connors. Picked up a DVD on the way home. Feel asleep on the couch. The DVD wasn’t boring, I was just plain tired.
Sunday
You know when you are unfit, extremely in my case, when you play sports and you don’t recover well. Recovering, to me at least, means my body is sore all over and aching in pain for the next three days.
AIESEC Victoria hosts the annual Sports Day. I had organised a team of Alumni and called ourselves “Team of Legends” to take on the LCs. Since I was so into it, clearly, the members of Team of Legends outnumbered the members. So Team of Legends was no more and we split into different teams to play Indoor Soccer, Basketball, Badminton and more Indoor Soccer. By the end, my body said no more. A great day that inspired many of us to play regularly: week in, week out of intense, competitive, fun and social match of Indoor Soccer.
So that’s the first part of the post…
Last Friday
Caught up with my mate, Alistair, who has a new job in the city. It was a quick lunch of skanky asain as I had massive cravings for noodles (of which it has not been satisfied over the last two days of cooking and ordering noodle based dishes).
A group of us, young professionals, have regular drinks on Friday night. Our first venue was Feddish. Mainly for its long Happy Hour of 5 – 8pm. Yi, Toby, Liz and lots of her friends, Alistair, Simon Z, Nick and his mate, Fiona and her work colleague, Fernanda, Tom and myself met up. Suffice to say I had one too many drinks and was taking advantage of the cheaper prices. It was great, I had a really enjoyable time, meeting new people and catching up.
From Feddish to Tony Starr’s Kitten Club. I’ve walked pass this place many times and have never noticed it before. The Tapas was expensive and not great. The vibe and atmosphere is fantastic. And there is a red room with a massive love heart where Ali and I were being idiots. I don’t recall much here. Only beer, Tapas, live Jazz band and meeting up with Jacs after her photo-shoot and being all dolled up.
Now my memory has gone awol. I only remember being on Swanston Street and then heading home. So my only conclusion was that I had a great time and cannot wait for the next instalment.
Last Saturday
Woke up, made brekkie, cleaned the house, did the laundry. Headed to OfficeWorks to help Jacs shop for a pressie for her dad. Came home, Jacs and I headed to the city. She dropped me off at Spencer Street and she went to have dinner with her friends.
This night was an awesome night. Melbourne Victory vs. Sydney FC. Our greatest rival in the A-League. The last time they played in Melbourne, Sydney lost 5-0. This time, it’s at Telstra Dome, with 39,740 packed in we saw a blockbuster. It had everything, goals, drama, tension, bookings, sending offs, flares and for Simon Z and myself LOTS of beers. Victory won the match 3-2. It was awesome. Simon and I always took the opportunity to sledge the Sydney players, abuse the refs and had a jolly good time.
Stumbling my way to 6 Links to meet up with four sexy ladies who were all drunk. Roni, Mandy, Kat and Jacs were the ever smiling and giggling girls who had simply too much to drink. I wasn’t complaining. From the outside, I looked like a pimp. And it felt good.
Roni had organised drinks with her friends, met many faces and had a good catch up with Kat and Mandy whilst Roni entertained everyone.
Manchuria was the next place. Well, after waiting an extended wait for the girls from a bathroom break. Luyen introduced us to this place before and as usual it was a happening place. More drinks for the ladies, water only for Mandy, and it was a great night.
Left Manchuria for our obligatory Maccas meal before heading home. That's an early night of 2am.
That pretty much sums everything up.
Tonight I’m heading out to the Steakhouse New Quay after reading Leanne’s review on it. Taking my parents out for dinner to celebrate a belated Father’s Day.
And this took me 1.5 hours to write. Not bad.
Once again, I apologise for possibly the worst story telling technique and writing. No proof reading or editing to be made. But I doubt I can write as much as the previous post, we'll see.
